Windsurfing: The Dip-Felixstowe Wind Direction: wnw Wind Stength: 13/18 Surf / Sea State: flatish Air Temperature: 24 Sea Temperature: 16 Weather: sunny Max Speed: 23.90 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 20 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
After working four nights in a row I was keen to get out windsurfing but
with the wind wnw at Felixstowe the longboard was the only option, so I was
at The Dip just after midday and rigged big. It was a case of wobbling off
the beach in a huge wind shadow and heading over to Bawdsey bay where the
wind is sidehore to that beach and see how windy it was. Because the tise
was nearly in there was not much shingle bank left so not much flat water
and what there was was not where the wind was blowing, but I had great fun
reaching broad out to sea and playing with the yachts.I then noticed that
the large RLNI lifeboat was moored up at Felixstowe Ferry so sailed up the
River Deben to see it, the sailing club had something on, I then carried
right up the river and turned around Waldringfield Island and headed back
to Felixstowe in winds thats were dropping.Back at the ferry they were
having a duck race at Bawdsey Quay and hundreds of small yellow plastic
ducks were being collected off the beach after a float along the river and
then I watched the lifeboat speed off back to Harwich:) The last beat back
to the dip is again a bit tricky in the gusty offshore wind but got back
and had a nice chat with Roger Vickers recovering from having a new knee
!!! hopefully the next time I see him he will be fit enough to windsurf !!!
So a top few hours out in the sunshine :)
